Description Botulism is a neuroparalytic disease caused by intoxication with a preformed neurotoxin or by toxicoinfection of a wound or of the GI tract by the organism clostridium botulinum. Eight serologically distinct toxins produced by clostridium botulinum have been identified (A, B, C-1, C-2, D,E,F,G). Some of these are highly toxic on release. Others require a process of proteolytic nicking before becoming fully active.
