Developmental Neurogenetics: A Clinical Survey

The field of developmental neurogenetics has burgeoned over the past decade. Through the combined efforts of developmental biologists, geneticists, and clinicians, we have significantly expanded our knowledge of the molecular genetics of visual system development. As aresult, we have begun to identify and characterize genetic mutations causing pathology in the afferent and efferent visual systems. The results have led to unique insights into the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental defects and helped to outline potential avenues for the identification and treatment of congenital and acquired neuro-ophthalmic disorders.
