Title Voluntary Alteration of Full-Field Electroretinogram (ERG) and Visual Evoked Potential (VEP)
Creator Reiss, Alyson B; Biousse, Valerie; Barnes, Claire S; Ying, Hang; Nakamoto, Beau; Newman, Nancy J
Subject electroretinogram; visual evoked responses
Description VEPs and full-field ERGs are often obtained in patients with unexplained visual loss. Although it is well documentedthat the VEP can be altered voluntarily, and therefore can lead to the incorrect diagnosis of organic rather than functional visualloss, the ERG is considered to be altered only when there is true retinal disease.
