Description Giant cell arteritis is a chronic granulomatous inflammation of the large and medium sized arteries with a predilection for the superficial temporal, ophthalmic, posterior ciliary and vertebral arteries in the elderly. It is a relatively common cause of blindness in the elderly in the West but rarely among Chinese in South East Asia. Currently, there are few reports in the medical literature on the Chinese Asian population with biopsy proven disease.
