Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase diuretic used in the treatment of papilledema associated with increased intracranial pressure. Its use in idiopathic intracranial hypertension is based on the ability of the drug to decrease the formation of CSF in the choroid plexus. This decreases the compression of the optic nerve in the subarachnoid space and reduces indirectly intra-axonal edema. |
