Description |
Axonal damage and neuronal loss leads to permanent neurological disability in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Activation of SIRT1, an enzyme involved in cellular stress resistance and survival, can attenuate neuronal degeneration. The neuroprotective effects of SRT501, a SIRT1 activator, were examined during optic neuritis in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of MS. |
