Title Familial Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Creator James J. Corbett, MD, University Of Mississippi
Subject Idiopathic intracranial hypertension; Familial idiopathic intracranial hypertension; Familial pseudotumor cerebri; Familial benign intracranial hypertension
Description A critical review of all familial cases of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) reported in the English literature reveals it to be rarely reported, most are first degree relatives and at least three of the reports do not conform to a diagnosis of IIH. Because of the rarity of reports it would be helpful to routinely examine first degree relatives of patients with IIH. A systematic effort to identify families with IIH might well lead to genetic insights into the pathogenesis of IIH.
