Title |
Incidence of Spontaneous Venous Pulsations: Revisited |
Creator |
Subramanian, Prem S.; Donnelly, Steven |
Subject |
Papilledema; Optic Nerve; Venous Pulsations |
Description |
Spontaneous venous pulsations (SVP) are rarely present in patients with papilledema, making SVP a useful finding in the evaluation of abnormal optic nerves. SVP also may be absent, however, in some normal subjects. Factors resulting in absent SVP in otherwise normal patients are not well characterized. Local ocular variables, especially involving intraocular pressure (IOP) and its variance (recently termed intraocular pulse pressure, IOPP) may have significant influence on SVP. |
