Description History: A young child with a swollen upper lid and an entrance wound of the tip of a pencil thrust into her superior right orbit by a playmate. Anatomy: Orbit. Disease Diagnosis: Inflammation; Trauma. Presenting Symptom: Swollen upper lid and an entrance wound from pencil tip. Neuroimaging: Axial CT scan of the inflammatory reaction in the superior right orbit and lid. Lower axial CT scan of the marked inflammation created by the entrance of the tip of the pencil which was broken off. Coronal view of the dense fragment in the upper left orbit consistent with graphite, adjacent to a hypodense fragment consistent with wood. Treatment: Anterior lid incision. Etiology: Pencil-tip wound.
