Student’s Age: 13 Date:5/13/2020 SCHOOL How did you feel when you learned that schools would close because of the COVID-19 pandemic? I was worried because nothing this serious has ever happened. It was scary to learn about how bad our situation was. What do you like the most about online school? I am able to learn at my own pace, and focus more because I'm in a good study spot. What do you dislike the most about online school? I don't get to see any of my classmates. We don't get to make jokes to laugh about in class. What do you miss the most about school? I miss my friends, and all the teachers. How are you connecting with your school friends during the pandemic? I have been texting them. Maybe calling them sometimes. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES What activities did you do before the pandemic? (Sports, music, etc. Please be specific.) I was going to rehearsal for my school musical. And I was having fun! Hanging out with my friends at the Mall. Are you continuing to do them now? If so, how? Do you use a virtual platform? Do you do them as you did before? When it was super new and awful I couldn't. But as we're hearing it get the slightest bit better, I've been seeing my friends. Still can't do my musical, but that's okay. What do you miss most about doing these activities in person? Once again, I just miss being able to see my friends faces. And with the musical? I miss rehearsal. And I miss actually being there! What do you like most about doing activities online? I don't like anything about online activities. They're the worst. FAMILY AND HOME What questions do you have about the pandemic? Is it actually getting better? Are we close to finding a cure? How are all the patients doing? Are they okay? What has changed the most in your home because of the pandemic? Our good has been consumed faster. Our Family has been getting closer, as we're stuck in this house together. How do you spend your free time at home? Usually you'll find me doing chores, watching The Office, watching YouTube, drawing, and reading. How have you stayed connected to extended family? How has this changed your relationships? I've seen only A few members of my extended family. And when I do see them, we talk alot. Are you learning new skills because of the pandemic? (Cooking, babysitting, house chores, arts, crafts, etc.?) If so, what are they? I've been learning how to crochet, I've been learning how to improve my drawing skills, and I've been learning how to edit my YouTube videos. SOCIETY How has the pandemic affected your community? How has it affected our state? I say its affected everyone emotionally, because they're isolated from everyone else, besides their family. Its making more people become depressed. Do you see any positive impacts from the pandemic? Explain… People are learning how to adapt to negative circumstances. Like, the people are now learning different things, so they know what to do if something else bad happens. Do you see any negative impacts from the pandemic? Explain… As said before, more people are growing depressed. Because quarantine is like being trapped in a cage. You can't see, hear, or interact with anyone else. What do you want future generations to know about what it’s like to experience a pandemic? If they ever read this, I want them to know that its super difficult. But you will make it through! It may seem like you won't, but I promise, you will. You just have to stay strong. And together, we can make it through anything. |
