Student’s Age: 12 Date: September 18, 2020 SCHOOL How did you feel when you learned that schools would close because of the COVID-19 pandemic? I felt really scared because I didn’t know what was going to happen, or if I was going to ever see my teacher and friends again. What do you like the most about online school? I loved being with my family and I was able to work at my own pace and give assignments as much time as they needed. What do you dislike the most about online school? I wasn’t able to see my friends and ask my teacher for help in person. What do you miss the most about school? I missed not being able to hang out with friends, and I mainly just really missed going to school. Everyone always said I don't want to go to school it is so boring, but I feel like after that they all realized it is better to go to school than stay home. How are you connecting with your school friends during the pandemic? I did google hangouts and some facetime calls, but it wasn’t the same as going to their houses or having them coming to my house. It was really hard. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES What activities did you do before the pandemic? (Sports, music, etc. Please be specific.) I mainly did piano, volleyball, and I did dance also.. Are you continuing to do them now? If so, how? Do you use a virtual platform? Do you do them as you did before? I did do piano the same by going across the street but volleyball was shut down because it was at the rec center and dance they were still trying to figure everything out so they did do zoom calls for a while, then they had us come in for a little bit of time in the studio before the performance. They ended up doing one outside. What do you miss most about doing these activities in person? I miss seeing all of my teachers and at home it is hard to get it right because there is such a small space but it was hard not having the coaches and teachers not there to help me. FAMILY AND HOME What questions do you have about the pandemic? Will we have to wear masks for a while after they find a vaxseen. What has changed the most in your home because of the pandemic? Well for a while we kind of have become closer at times but have also fought a lot more and I mean a lot. How do you spend your free time at home? Mainly watching TV sometimes playing Xbox, drawing, reading, going on walks, jumping on the tramp, riding bikes/scooters, and diamond art. How have you stayed connected to extended family? How has this changed your relationships? A couple times we video called and called eachother. Are you learning new skills because of the pandemic? (Cooking, babysitting, house chores, arts, crafts, etc.?) If so, what are they? I have baked a lot more I learned some new recipes that I didn even know existed. SOCIETY How has the pandemic affected your community? How has it affected our state? Now we have to wear masks almost everywhere we go, we all do, also we I am so confused Some people say they are not trick-or-treating others say they are so I do not know what will happen and everyone is quarantined because they are paranoid they are going to get sick. I also think it is crazy that something bad has happened almost every month this year and everyone was wrong about it going to be a great year, they jinxed it. Do you see any positive impacts from the pandemic? Explain… I haven’t really seen anything like that. Do you see any negative impacts from the pandemic? Explain… I see lots of them like always wearing a mask and many many other things. What do you want future generations to know about what it’s like to experience a pandemic? I want them to know unless they have something worse than this they can not complain about their lives I mean we can complain but the great depression was mostlikely worse than what we are going through they should know no matter what they ge or what they want and don get to be mad or say your life is miserable because it is not that is one of the best lives you get it and you should love it. |
