Student’s Age: 10 Date: May 27, 2020 SCHOOL: Foothills Elementary How did you feel when you learned that schools would close because of the COVID-19 pandemic? I was kind of happy because I didn’t have to go to school. But I was also sad because I didn’t get to be with my friends and learn at school. What do you like the most about online school? It doesn’t take as long as normal school and I can get my stuff done much faster. What do you dislike the most about online school? I don’t get to play with my friends and interact with other people when I’m doing online school. What do you miss the most about school? I miss being with my friends, learning, doing rotations, recess, and eating lunch in the lunchroom. How are you connecting with your school friends during the pandemic? I get to see them on Zoom meetings. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES What activities did you do before the pandemic? (Sports, music, dance, etc. Please be specific.) I liked to go swimming, playing Legos, playing video games and reading. Are you continuing to do them now? If so, how? Do you use a virtual platform? Do you do them as you did before? I haven’t been able to go swimming because all of the pools are shut down. I have been able to play Legos, play video games, and read books (probably more than I did before!) “Have you stopped doing some activities? Which ones? Why did you stop” I stopped swimming because nowhere was open that I could go swim. We haven’t gone to any movies at the movie theater. We haven’t been going to many stores. What do you miss most about doing these activities in person? I liked going swimming because I got exercise and because it was fun. I liked going to the movie theater because you can get popcorn, snacks, and drinks. Also you can watch the movie on a bigger screen than you can just at home. What do you like most about doing activities online? I can get do somethings that I wouldn’t be able to do at school or home. FAMILY AND HOME What questions do you have about the pandemic? I don’t really have any. What has changed the most in your home because of the pandemic? We have stopped going to stores and other places. We have mainly been doing school at home. We’ve been eating all of our meals at home. We have been spending more time together. How do you spend your free time at home? Playing video games, reading, playing Legos, watching movies, playing iPad, riding my bike, playing outside. How have you stayed connected to extended family? How has this changed your relationships? I am still able to go to one of my grandparents’ house sometimes to play with my cousin. Other than that I have not had very much interaction with my relatives. My other grandparents have been quarantining themselves because they do not want to get the coronavirus. I have been writing letters and sending pictures to them. I’ve also written letters to my great grandma. Are you learning new skills because of the pandemic? (Cooking, babysitting, house chores, arts, crafts, etc.?) If so, what are they? I have been getting better at cooking. I’ve gotten a lot better at riding my bike. I’ve done more chores. I’ve done some art projects for school. You may include artwork or photographs about how the pandemic has shaped your life here. Insert jpg photos or scans directly into this document. |
