Student’s Age 16 Date: 5/12/2020 SCHOOL Ben Lomond How did you feel when you learned that schools would close because of the COVID-19 pandemic? I was kind of excited because I’ve always wanted to do online school, but I was scared about why school was closing. What do you like the most about online school? I get to do it on my own times, and I can go has fast or as slow as I want. What do you dislike the most about online school? That teachers give to much work. I don’t think I’ve ever finished an assignment in class before, but my teachers think I can’t finish 4 assignments for one class in one day. What do you miss the most about school? The freedom, I could go out to eat and I can go see my friends during lunch. How are you connecting with your school friends during the pandemic? Facetime calls, and my mom lets me go see them. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES What activities did you do before the pandemic? (Sports, music, dance, etc. Please be specific.) We were starting our softball season and then it got cancelled. I was pretty upset about it ending but I know it was for a good reason. Are you continuing to do them now? If so, how? Do you use a virtual platform? Do you do them as you did before? I’m still practicing softball, with all the stuff I have at my house so then I can be ready for next year season. What do you miss most about doing these activities in person? Seeing my friends and traveling to other schools. What do you like most about doing activities online? NOTHINGGGGGGGGGGGG FAMILY AND HOME What questions do you have about the pandemic? I don’t really have any questions about the pandemic. What has changed the most in your home because of the pandemic? I’m actually home for once and its super different because I don’t always like being home every day. How do you spend your free time at home? I don’t really have any free time because school takes up most of it. How have you stayed connected to extended family? How has this changed your relationships? My family does zoom calls every week to talk about what has been happening in our lives that week. Are you learning new skills because of the pandemic? (Cooking, babysitting, house chores, arts, crafts, etc.?) If so, what are they? No, I haven’t because all I’ve been doing is homework and trying to get my grades up. I’m also taking practice test so I can start college this summer. SOCIETY How has the pandemic affected your community? How has it affected our state? It has opened my community’s eyes to help each other in a safe way. So, if someone doesn’t have the money for food then someone else goes and gets it for them and is safe about it. I feel like our state is dealing with it pretty well but I try to stay out of it all because not everyone will like it, but I know the basics of it so I can keep myself and others safe. How do you think the pandemic might impact your life in the future? It will be something my kids will learn about in school and I have to relive it for them. It’s different from anything we have ever dealt with, but I don’t think it has done much to my life. But no one in my family has gotten it so it has not impacted my life yet. What strengths and weaknesses in our society are being exposed by the pandemic? Strengths is probably that we aren’t scared to help each other but we are doing it in a safe way. Weaknesses are that a lot of people don’t like that jobs are shutting down for a while. But in my opinion, I think its smart because you are saving lives. In which ways has the pandemic affected the economy? That people are dying and a hand full of people don’t understand that world is shutting down. What do you want future generations to know about what it’s like to experience a pandemic? Its pretty crazy and you need to show respect to everyone and you might not like some of the things that are happening but the way that you deal with everything changes how you look at it. Many people are getting hurt but you get to spend time with your loved ones and get to know them better. So, look at it in a better point of view and try to stay positive. You may include artwork or photographs about how the pandemic has shaped your life here. Insert jpg photos or scans directly into this document. |
