Description Letters from Allen H. Lundgren in France to wife Ruth in Salt Lake City during August and September of 1944, while serving in the U.S. Army's Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. He began the month still in Normandy, as the Ninth Division moved slowly from place to place, but by mid-month they were on the move crossing France. He provides general descriptions of the French countryside, the towns undergoing repairs, two funeral processions, a prisoner of war camp, and the movement of the troops. The letter of August 19 may have been written in Paris, although it was weeks before he could mention having been there, due to censorship rules. Letters dated August 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, 31, Sept. 1.
