Description Letters from Allen H. Lundgren in Winchester, England, and Normandy, France, to wife Ruth in Salt Lake City during June of 1944, while serving in the U.S. Army's Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. In his letter of June 2, he describes how he will miss the local (Winchester) cathedral he has come to know well, probably unaware that his departure was so near. After a gap of nine days, his letter of June 11 announced that he was "somewhere in France," this being just after the Normandy invasion of "D-Day." He describes the welcome greetings that French townspeople give the arriving Americans. The letter of June 27 describes his experience of his landing on June 10. The June 30 letter describes his interaction with German prisoners. Letters dated June 1, 2, 11, 18, 23, 24, [undated], 27, 30.
