Retinal structural and microvascular changes reflect changes in the brain. Similar to the selective vulnerability of subpopulations of cerebral neurons in particular neurodegenerative disorders, different RGCs damage patterns have been observed in various neurodegenerative disorders. The retinal alterations detected by non-invasive OCT and OCT angiography (OCTA) can be the universally available screening tools to identify early stages of neurodegenerative diseases and to monitor disease progression and therapeutic efficacy.
