Central Serous Retinopathy Along With Optic Neuritis as the Initial Presentation of Multiple Sclerosis

MS is a neurodegenerative disease of CNS resulting from immune-mediated inflammation and demyelination of axons. About 400,000 people in the U.S have MS. The average age of onset is between15 to 45 years. Female to male ratio is 2 to1. Neurologic signs and symptoms of MS can be autonomic, visual, motor or sensory. Up to 20% of patients have optic neuritis as the initial clinical presentation with monocular painful vision loss and decrease in visual acuity, and color vision, visual field loss and RAPD. Optic disc swelling is present in one-third of patients with optic neuritis. We are presenting a patient with multiple sclerosis who had anterior optic neuritis associated with contralateral CSR (central serous chorioretinopathy) as his initial presentation of the disease.
