Show Fact Sheet June 2020 Utah State and County Annual Population Estimates by Single Year of Age and Sex: 2010-2019 Table 1. Utah Population, 2019 Overview Utah’s population grew by nearly 450 thousand people (about 16 percent) between 2010 and 2019. Cumulative natural increase (births minus deaths) accounts for 70 percent of the growth and net migration for 30 percent. Birth rates are falling, Utah’s population is aging, and Baby Boomers are retiring. The retirement age population (65 and older) grew by nearly 45 percent, while the youth population (under 18) grew by less than 10 percent. We produced these single year of age and sex estimates for Utah and each of its counties from 2010 through 2019. Using the Utah Demographic and Economic Model (UDEM), we generated age and sex population estimates that sum to Utah Population Committee (UPC) population estimate totals.1 The full dataset is publicly available on our website, and is a valuable resource for planners and other interested parties who require data on detailed subpopulations. Sex ratio 5.0% is the number of males divided by females. Median age is the age at which half the population is older and younger. Youth dependency ratio is the population under age 18, divided by the 4.0% population 18 through 64. Retirement dependency ratio is the population 65 and older, divided by the population 18 through 64. Total dependency ratio is the sum of the youth and retirement dependency ratios. All dependency ratios are multiplied by 100. 3.0% Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute 2.0% I 411 East South Temple Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111 I 801-585-5618 I gardner.utah.edu Table 2.
