The principal building is a single-story, front-gabled, Split-Level residence built in the Contemporary style. The residence is clad in regular brick and drop siding. Two additions have been made, one on the southeast and one on the northwest side of the building. The southeast addition has large window walls and is set back slightly from the front of the house. The northwest addition involves the partial enclosure of the original carport to create a single-car garage, separated from the house by a breezeway. It is clad in drop siding that matches the original siding on the house. Both additions are built in a scale appropriate to the house and are well-integrated into the original roofline. Because of this, the building retains sufficient integrity of design, location, setting, and feeling to remain eligible for the National Register Historic Places. Alterations consist of the replacement of all visible doors and windows. One non-contributing outbuilding, a workshop (OB I), is located behind the main house. 5 HISTORY/PROPOSED ACTION Describe the impending action (e.g., road widening, rehabilitation, alteration, demolition). Additional historical information is optional. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is evaluating the potential impacts of a sidewalk improvement project along seven sections of Spring Lane in Holladay, Salt Lake County, Utah, between 1300 East and Highland Drive. The project is designed to improve safety, particularly for children walking to and from school, by adding to or improving the sidewalk along the south side of the road. The sidewalk right-of-way (ROW) is insufficient for multiple properties, and in some Researcher/Organization: Documentation Date (mo/yr): Stephanie Lechert and Kappi Hansen / SWCA Environmental Consultants April 2015 instances property boundaries extend beyond the sidewalk location and well into the ROW for Spring Lane. UDOT proposes to purchase the necessary ROW for sidewalk improvements. For the property at 1708 E. Spring Lane, an estimated 340 square feet of ROW along the northeast side of the property are required for the project.
