Sophomore Alissa Atisme broke the school record in the 100-meter dash and three Utes won events as the Utah track and field team hosted the Utah Spring Classic at the McCarthey Family Track and Field on Friday evening. Atisme's new school record is 11.78 seconds, which was fast enough to earn fourth overall. Sophomore Danielle Perez also competed in the event for the Utes, finishing 11th with a time of 12.44 seconds. Atisme and Perez also competed in the 200, finishing third (24.66) and 13th (25.95), respectively for the Utes. The Utes dominated the 3,000, claiming four of the top-five spots. Leading the charge for the Utes was sophomore Jessica Sams. Sams captured the top spot for the Utes, recording a time of 10:27.37. Senior Lauren Mills finished not far behind in second with a time of 10:29.93. Becky Sarmiento placed fourth at 10:40.18 and Shaylen Crook was fifth. Competing in her last home meet as a Ute, redshirt Destanae Howerton-Davis won the shot put after throwing a distance of 46 feet, 10 inches. Utah continued to roll in the throwing events with Ilse Kaaja recording a throw of 190 feet, 4 inches to capture the event title. The hurdle events featured sophomore Christine Van Brocklin recording a time of 14.34 seconds to capture fifth overall. She followed up this performance with another impressive performance in the 400 hurdles, where she also finished fifth in 1:03.33. Multiple Utes recorded impressive performances in the 800, with five Utes placing in the top 10 in the event. True freshman Sarah Feeny led the charge in the event, capturing second with a time of 2:09.71. Redshirt senior Ali Eisenbeiss competed unattached, recording a time of 2:09.94 to earn third. Grace Englund crossed the line in a time of 2:13.02 for fourth. Rounding out the top five runners for Utah were Nicole Rietz in eighth (2:14.49) and Allison Aafedt in ninth (2:14.65). The high jump saw a second-place performance by sophomore Kailey Banks after clearing a height of 5 feet, 5.75 inches. Freshman Madison Lanford represented the Utes in the long jump. Lanford leaped a distance of 16 feet, 4.85 inches to earn 13th overall in the event. |
