Briefly describe the principal building, additions or alterations and their dates, and associated outbuildings and structures. Use continuation sheets as necessary: The Larsen House is located just two hundred feet from the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad tracks; approximately eight and a half miles north of the Benjamin Station. The house was constructed sometime between 1885 and 1906. The style , type and materials indicate that the building was constructed ca. 1885 - 1890. However, the title report does not support this, and indicates the date of construction may be 1906. This single family residence is constructed with regular brick, and has a sandstone foundation. The house type is a central block with projecting bays, in the Victorian Eclectic style. The symmetrical facade consists of a central projecting bay which has a gable dormer with a double double hung window. The first floor of the bay has two very tall double hung windows. On each side of the central block there is a small second floor gable dormer ; one very tall window, and one entrance door . The two entrance doors was a common feature of a polygamist household, yet research indicates that Lars Larsen had just one wife. There are two porches; one on the south elevation and another smaller porch on the west elevation. The original wood columns still exist on each porch, however the wood floors have been replaced with concrete. Most of the doors and windows on the main floor are covered with corrugated metal, and the upstairs windows are boarded with wood. The roof over the south facing porch is falling down. The house is currently being used to store straw and does not appear to be structurally sound. The house retains its historic integrity, as there are no additions, but it has been neglected for at least twenty years and would require a great deal of work to restore. There are several wood frame outbuildings, including an outhouse and several sheds . Architect!Builder Lars P . King received the patent on the 117 acres which included the land that this house is built on. Soon thereafter, King sold the 117 acres to John Beck; who in 18 8 7 sold ten acres of the land to William Creer. William Creer was convert to the LDS Church from Preston, England who carne to Utah in 1854. He lived at 100 East 600 North in Spanish Fork, with his wife Sarah Jane and their eight chi ldren. Creer was the Mayor of Spanish Fork from 1883 - 1886, and served as the City Attorney from 1887 - 1899. 1 In 1896 Creer sold the ten acres to Issac G. Shepherd, who in turn sold it to David Bowen in 1902 . In 1906 Bowen sold a half interest of the ten acre parcel to Lars Larsen. 2 Lars P. Larsen was born in Glovstroth, Denmark in May 1863. As a boy, he carne to Utah with his parents Lars and Johanna Jensen Larsen; they settled in the area of Spanish Fork. In November 1890 he married Mary Ellen Bowen; most likely the daughter of David Bowen who sold Larsen the land in 1906. Lars and Mary had nine children: William; David; Grant ; George; Dean; Ruth; Elinor; Lillian and Spencer. Lars was a farmer and raised livestock. He served as a Bishop in the Leland Ward of the L.D.S . Church from 1913 through 1921 3 . Lars passed away at the age o f seventy in December 1933; leaving the house and farm to his sons George S. Larsen and Dean M. Larsen. 4 In 1935 Dean and his wife Lois quit-claimed their half interest in the property to George and his wife Alta. In 1970 George and Alta quit-claimed this half interest back to Dean M. Larsen. Then in 1986 George and Alta sold the house to the current owners 1986 when it was passed to the current owners, Edward and Virginia Larsen. 5 Edward is the son of George and Alta Larsen. The house is currently (1997) vacant and is being used to store straw. 1 Creer , Le land; Frame; Nell . The Wi lliam Creer Family .
