The couple arrived in Lehi from Sweden in the fall of 1862 .and shortly afterwards settled on their Main Srreet propeny. Thev originallv lived in an old five-room ariobe house on the site. But in 1889 theY bUll! a new dwelling on the spoto-the current GlewConrue Nielsen home. A century ago that house was the gathering spot of local Scandinavian Monnons. Peterson served as president of the SC3I1dinaVlan Saints of Lehi for more than thiny year.>. as well as a SiXtenn CIty councilman. twelve-year-member of the local school board. several year.> as general water master. four years as a Lehi pOiiceman. and a duector of the People' 5 Co-op In 1943. long ai1er Andrew A. Peterson was dead. the Alex Jameson fanulv moved to Lehi and purchased his old Mam Street home. At this nme Jameson established a bakery m town at two different locations. In earlv 1946 Jameson corrurusslOned local contractor Alma Peterson to build a new bakery building east of his home. The twenrv-bv-sIXTY foot block building with bnck front boasted a large oven, storage area. and glassed rus plav room. The Grand Opening of the new Lehi Bakerv "'(15 held on ::: July 1946. The Jamesons moyed to Monnceilo in mld-1950 and Julian Drug opened m the fonner bakery on 6 September 10 50 The Julian fanulv also rented the vacated Jameson home next door. Local bov, Paul Julian. Jomed the naVY during World War lJ and spent mOST or his seTVIce as a pharmacls(s mate In Rhode lsiand. When he returned home he used his GI bill to obtain his degree at the Idaho State School of Pharmacy at Pocatello. He worked briefly at a pharmacy m Sprague, Washington, before returning to Lehi. In early February 1954 Julian announced he had purchased the Merrihew Building, where the State Bank or'Leht had been located from 19 19 to 1953 . After Julian's Drug moved from 35 West Main the place remamed vacant for a nme. In October of 1958. Glen and Connie Nielsen bought both the fonner bakery/drug store bwldIng and the old Peterson home from the Jameson family. After extensive remodeling. Nielsen. who for the previous three years had been barbenng at the Hotel Utah and the Regal Barber Shop, opened Glen ' s Barber Shop at 35 West Mam on 14 Februarv i 959. Barber Bovd Wilkin worked m Glen 's Shop for a orne. But when Nielsen became involved m a WIg busmess m Salt Lake City m the fall of 1969, his barber- shop was leased bv Ganv Sampson. who hari been barbenng m Midvale for several years. While Sampson barbered m the front of the shop. the back half was occupied by Coruue Nielsen ·s Gerue Scarf dismbutorsruo.
