Provo Daily Herald. 2004. Obituary for Irene Fox Burnham Allen, November 24, 2004. Provo, Utah. FamilySearch.org. Accessed online on October 14,2013 and December 6, 2013. Researcher/Organization: Sheri Ellis/Certus Environmental Solutions, LLC Date: October 14, 2013 4 ARCmTECTURAL DESCRIPTION Building Style/Type: Minimal Traditional style / World War II-Era Cottage Foundation Material: Concrete slab No. Stories: 1 Wall Material(s): Asbestos shingle Additions: 1L none _ minor _ major (describe below) Alterations: _ none 1L minor _ major (describe below) Number ofassociated outbuildings _1_ and/or structures _0_. Briefly describe the principal building. additions or alterations and their dates. and associated outbuildings and structures. Use continuation sheets as necessary. The primary historical structure at 951 West 2100 North in Lehi is a ca. 1945, one-story, World War II-Era Cottage exhibiting Minimal Traditional style. The building is clad in asbestos siding and appears to rest upon a concrete slab " foundation; no basement entry was observed. The roof is a combination of hipped and gabled sections and has moderately deep eaves. Two brick chimneys were observed. One extends from the roof in the western portion of the building. The other is located in the center of the rear elevation of the building and is partially exterior. No fireplaces were observed in the interior of the building in association with the locations of the chimneys. The building is a roughly 1,350-square foot structure containing seven rooms, including three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, a pantry/utility room, and a living room. The interior appears to have undergone a c. 1960s or 1970s remodel, as suggested by faux-wood paneling and deep pile shag carport in several rooms. The northern elevation of the building is its primary elevation. It is characterized by a gable roof over the eastern third 0 f the elevation and a hipped roof over the remainder. The primary entry is in the western portion of the gabled section. The northern elevation contains four window openings. One is located in the gabled section, and three are located in the hipped section. The easternmost window opening is large and rectangular in shape with the long-axis oriented horizontally. The opening holds a three-part, metal, casement window protected by a metal storm window. The remaining three window openings are smaller and rectangular in shape with the long axes oriented vertically. The westernmost of the openings is slightly larger than the other two. All three openings hold aluminum-framed single-hung windows protected by outer storm windows. The eastern elevation is characterized by two window openings. The openings are identical in size and shape, being narrow and rectangular with the long axes oriented horizontally. They are set high in the wall, just below the eaves, and hold aluminum-framed slider windows. The south elevation constitutes the rear of the building. It is characterized by an entry, three window openings, and one of the aforementioned chimneys. The entry is located at the extreme eastern end of the elevation. One of the window openings is located immediately west of the entry, and the remaining two are equally spaced in the western half of the elevation, west of the chimney. All three window openings are rectangular in shape with the long axes oriented vertically, and all hold aluminum-framed single-hung windows protected by outer storm windows. Between the easternmost window and the chimney is a shallow projecting bay clad in aluminum siding. The purpose of the bay is unclear. The western elevation is characterized by three window openings. All three openings are rectangular in shape with the long axes oriented vertically, and all hold aluminum-framed single-hung windows protected by outer storm windows. The outer two openings are larger-approximately twice the size--than the centrally located opening, which serves the bathroom of the residence. One outbuilding was present on the property. This was a small shed located to the southeast of the dwelling. The shed was a wood-framed structure clad in corrugated metal sheets on the walls and roof. It had a concrete slab foundation and a frontgable roof with exposed rafter tails. The building had a single (pedestrian style) entry in the north elevation and no window openings. Explain and justify any significant themes marked above. Use continuation sheets as necessary. The dwelling in question was constructed c. 1945, during a period of increased residential development resulting for World War II. The original owners of the property appear to have been the Milton Green family. According to the 1940 census, the Green family at that time consisted of Milton Samuel Green, his wife Reubena Brooks Green, and their son Allen Green, who was 5 years old at the time. In 1944, the Greens deeded the property to Irene Fox Burnham. Ms. Burnham was, at the time, married to Eugene Kipling Burnham (FamilySearch.org 2013). The couple had married in 1938 (FamilySearch.org 2013). Together they had four children, though it is unclear if any of the children had been born by the time the couple purchased the property from the Greens. Irene retained ownership of the property until 1991, at which time she deeded it to her surviving children-Sherry Nussbaum, Keith Burnham, and Rex Burnham. The Burnham's sold the property to Jeffrey and Wendy Shupe in 2000, and the Shupes held it until 2005, at which time they sold it to Michael and Annette Whimpey. The Whimpeys sold the property two years later to Pine Hollow Townhomes, LLC, who ultimately sold it to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) in 2009. The UDOT intends to demolish or otherwise dispose of the property. Irene Fox Burnham was born in Lehi on October 15,1914 (Provo Daily Herald 2004). Her first husband, Eugene Burnham, passed away in 1956. Four years later, in 1960, she married Stewart Allen; he passed away in 1984 (Provo Daily Herald 2004). By all reports, Irene was a home maker throughout her life. No information could be located for Eugene Burnham. It is unclear from records whether Irene lived in the residence at 951 West 2100 North in Lehi or occupied a different residence during part of the time it remained in her ownership. 2100 North Property overview. -----951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of property to south-southwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of property to south-southeast 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of property to west-southwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; North elevation to southeast --- ---- ...--...--- 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; East elevation to west 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; South elevation to northwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; South elevation to northeast 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; West elevation to north --951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Example of window detail 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Soffit and eave detail r' } ':~ 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Foundation detail 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Exterior chimney; view to northwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of living room; view to southeast 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of north-central bedroom; view to northwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of kitchen; view to west 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi ; Overview of pantry/utility; view to east 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of hall and built-in; view to east 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of northwestern bedroom; view to northwest 951 W . 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of southwestern bedroom; view to southwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Overview of bathroom; view to west-southwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lebi; Overview of bathroom; view to west-northwest 951 W. 2100 N., Lehi; Outbuilding and rear yard to southeast Bedroom Bedroom Living Room TUb) Hall Kitchen Bedroom Sketch floor p Ian, relative scale.
