While this part was being built they lived in a. cabin which sat where Chipman Park 1s now . The second part was - ' built in the' 1860' s and maGe of stone brought from Lindon, this was bu1lt for the second wife . Mr . Chipman died in 1926, his wUe (it· is unsure of the date of her death) , left the house in the care of th&ir two daughters Melva (she graduated f'.l'om the B. Y. During :'.,1 e the house wa.s called. the Old Maids house for neither sister ever married. when Let moved out she locked the door a.nd left everything as it was in the house ,. ThroUgh the years this house s throughly vandallsed. The owners of date Mr . and Mrs. Fitzen aqu1red the gouse in the 1960's and have really done a lot of redecorating due to the fact that Mr. Fitzen has a. demolition company, and the ny d1fferent 'buildings he has demolished was put to use in this home . 'rhe f1repalce is from the Govenor Dern mansion, the windows and basin fro the Cosgr1t Mansion 1n Salt Lake. The kitchen has three decades of cooking stoves, the first being a large stone fireplace in which they cooked with large kettles in the fire , anci: old wood stove from t-Iontana and last a gas range . There is also eo large wrought Iron chilnda11er which Nrs . Fiuen designed and made • Although this house has not got all of the or1gi 1 furnishings . Mrs . Fltzen has tried to keep the furnishings troughout the house of the period with chandallers ~ bits and pieces of her parents ho eS t The exterior of the home 1s beautiful with gazebos lights , fencing , the stone i n the yard is from ~ old schools whi ch have tora down. The lights from the old Provo Courthouse and. Salt Lake . - : , WASHBURN Mansion Cont •• street l1gts adorn the outside of this unique even bas the garden nsion.
