The firm is composed of Walter P. :wlhitehead and Edward Farrer. Mr. W,h itehead was -b orn ,i n England, while Mr. Farrer is a native of Utah County. Both are well and favorably known through out our local business world, as· young men of most superior attainments, possessed of splendid business qualifications, and who may always be found working faith'fully ·f or the interests of the com· munity of which they form a most component part, and Utah County is proud to refer to them as among her most honored sons. Nelson-Architect A young man whose superior ability has made a name for him throughout the state, and one whose exception· ally high grade of work stands as a monument to said ability as a firstclass cra1:tsman of his kind, is Joseph Nelson, whose well E;lquipped offices are located in the Farmers & Mer· chants' Bank ·b uilding, Provo. A native of Utah, Mr. Nelson was educated at the Brjgham Young Col· ,, Iege at Logan, after which he took a special ,architectural course at the University of Pennsylvania, studying under such men as Paul , P. Cret, Warren ,P. Laird, C. ·F. Osborn and others; all masters in their line. Mr. Nelson is justly proud of the fact that he was awarded first prize for the superfor excellence of his work in design for the year 1908; an honor of no mean proportions when it is ,t aken into consider-a tion the great number of contestants and the high order of ability to ,b e found at an institution of this jmportance. A sample of the excellent work of Mr. Nelson may .b e seen in the Central School building of this city, and in the High schools of .Springville, ,Spanjsh Fork and Payson. One of the few college trained men in the architectural profession in Utah, .Mr. Nelson has both a theoretical and practical knowled,ge of ,h is business, and is recognized as one of .the most able exponents of his ,p rofession in central and southern Utah. Havjng spent a great p·r oportion of his time in study· ing the architecture of the large eastern cities, specializing along the lines of churches, gymnasiums and libr-a ries he is especially quali· ·fied for this work. A member of the State Board of Archltecture Mr. Nelson is the possessor of a fund of knowledge which places him high in the estimation of all who know him.
