XIV, NO. 37 Land Owners Approve Street LightingSystem A street lighting system In Su· gar House which will be more efficient and less expensive than the llghtln~ In .downtown Salt Lake came a step nearer real· izatlon this week when .John C. Barnes announced to Chamber of Commerce members that prope rty owners <Tepresenting over 6500 feet of frontage had been signed up as approving the new ·system. The 6500 feet now signed up ls more than the required 51 per cent of frontage which must be represented on a petition to go before the city commission. Mr. Barnes explained that Sugar House's petition would go before the cilY commission before Oct. 1. The commission would then call for a public hearing and then-if successful- would advertise for bids. The petition will request the city to pay 30 per cent of total cost, the rest will be shared by property owners to the extent of -approximately 50 cents per front toot per year. It Is hoped that the new light· ing system w.UI be installed by Christmas. Scientifically de11lgned to throw maximum light on the streets, sidewalks and property frontage, the lighting will extend from Ramona to Simpson Avenues on 11th East, and from 7th to 13th East on 21st South. Signing up property owners has been handled by membera of the publlc affairs committee of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce and other Interested people, Mr. Barnes said. Ckant 'Midgley, chairman of tile committee, and other chamber dllrectors have aided greatly, ac· cording to Mr. Barnes. Othen who have given their service are: Dale Curtis, Less Taylor, A. L.
