The Measure Up Pressure Down (MUPD) Campaign was created by the American Medical Group Foundation (AMGF) in 2012 to engage medical groups and health systems across the nation to achieve control of 80 percent of high blood pressure patients by 2016. A 2.9% improvement in compliance was seen with interventions. However, more improvement is needed to reach 80% compliance. Areas for continued improvement include: ongoing education of staff, providers, and patients, new techniques to address white coat hypertension, and guideline for specialty clinics to identify hypertension and arrange for treatment options. |

Method Participating in the MUPD campaign gave UUCC an opportunity to utilize resources of the program and network with other health care systems across the country to improve control of our hypertensive patients. UUHC utilized 3 of 8 planks in the MUPD Campaign to overcome perceived barriers. Implemented a program based on best practices to improve BP monitoring techniques for staff. Conducted Health Fairs for community to engage and educate patients. Hypertension guidelines were established and integrated into electronic provider resources. Results Conclusion A 2.9% improvement in compliance was seen with interventions. However, more improvement is needed to reach 80% compliance. Areas for continued improvement include: ongoing education of staff, providers, and patients, new techniques to address white coat hypertension, and guideline for specialty clinics to identify hypertension and arrange for treatment options. Compliance improved from 66.8% in 2013 to 69.7% in 2015. University of Utah Community Clinics ranks 58 out of 91 in health care systems participating in MUPD. Teaching Tools Background Despite various methods of treatment for hypertensive patients at University of Utah Community Clinics (UUCC), our quality reports indicate that as of Quarter 1 2013, only 66.8 % of hypertensive patients were in compliance. Compliance indicates meeting the recommended goal of <140/90. Assumed barriers to compliance included: Blood pressure (BP) monitoring techniques, lack of patient education, and treatment plan.
