Description Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) kills more people in the US than all vaccine-preventable diseases combined. Elderly are at greater risk of contracting IPD, likely due to high prevalence of diseases causing immune impairment. Implementing a new pharmacy workflow aimed to optimize the immunization process appears to improve immunization rates (more data needed). Main barrier to improving immunization rates is staff participation.Must incentivize retail pharmacies to improve immunization rates. Primary care pharmacists play major role in improving immunization rates.
