Description Popular in his own time but little remembered today, Francesco Geminiani stands as one of the more significant composers, virtuoso performers and musical theorists of the Baroque Era. The Six Concerti Grossi, Opus 􁪽 are Geminiani's best known compositions today, and they present the modern student with a good idea of Geminiani's musical abilities and inclinations. In this thesis the author will discuss the life of Geminiani and his musical and historical significance before examining the Six Concerti Grossi in the light of their formal and s tiruc tur aj principles, contrapuntal devices, harmony, and methods of thematic development and transformation.
