Description Bids for construction of Stanaker (Steinaker) Dam near Vernal, Utah, were opened on April 1, 1959, at Vernal. Apparent low bidder was Morrison-Knudsen Company with a figure of $1,659,428.75. THe bids were opened by Alton Peterson, Construction Engineer for Stanaker (Steinaker) Dam. From left to right at the table are: Bill Hall, surveyor, Vernal, Utah; Elmer Davis, materials engineer, USBR, Vernal, Utah; Alton Peterson; Sharold Adams (hidden), office engineer, USBR, Vernal, Utah. The dam is an earthfill structure which will impound water deverted from Ashley Creek. Among those in the audience in the front row are William Wallis, Don Showalter and Ralph Ashton.
