Description Various types of polymer networks have been studied for use as drug delivery systems (1-6). In studying these systems, a chief objective has been to achieve zero order or a constant release rate of drug from the polymer network (2). One system which has shown promise in achieving zero order drug release consists of independent hydrophilic polymer network, saturated with drug, and a hydrophobic polymer network. If complete separation of the water soluble and water insoluble phases is achieved, then this system is called an interpenetrating polymer network (IPN). This phase separation promotes zero order drug release as the IPN is exposed to and swells in fluids.
