Description Address: 1030 So. 500 East (alternatively: 475 Herbert Avenue), Salt Lake City. A German Lutheran missionary established St. John's the German Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1892. The first chapel was built in 1894 at 700 South 500 West, but the location was inconvenient, and services were moved to Zion Lutheran. A second chapel was begun in 1905 at 130 East 700 South, and dedicated 17 December 1905. Growth over the next two decades led to another move, and its present home was dedicated on 19 December 1937. The congregation has been affiliated with the Missouri Synod since 1900. The Sudanese Community Church has also met here recently.
