Check fraud: An analysis of various methods, and deterrence strategies

This paper presents an analysis of check fraud, implications for businesses and individuals, and ways they can protect themselves. The American Bankers Association found that "more than $1 billion in attempted check fraud" was recorded by commercial banks in 1997 (Barancik 1998, p. 25). Clearly check fraud represents a huge problem for financial institutions as well as everyone in society, because we all pay for this crime. Check fraud is only a fraction of the total frauds committed that make all of us victims.
