Title Constitutional guarantees of human rights in the United Kingdom their relationship to and progress under the European convention of human rights
Date 1980-05-06
Year graduated 1980
Description The object of this senior project has been to examine the effects on English Constitutional Law of the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: to show the themes behind their interaction and to trace the resulting effects. To this end, I have endeavored to show on a general basis the broad historical trends in English Constitutional Law regarding human rights prior to World War II, to show the goals and purposes of the Convention regarding human rights, and finally to illustrate the way those goals and purposes have human rights in Great Britain, through examining the Ireland, Golder and Sunday Times cases. The broad scope of this type of approach will hopefully lend itself to reflecting the complexities and subtleties inherent in a topic of this nature. Let me finally add that I have found the entire project of human rights and hence the entire project fascinating and thought provoking to a degree rarely reached, and hope that this summary can convey the intricacies and the possibilities that are the subject's due.
