Additional Information Huntington Digital Library: "Nevills had chartered the outfit for P. W. Tompkins with the plan to run to the mouth of the Green River where they hoped to meet the Holmstrom-Burg party. Nevills hoped for a share in the publicity. Tompkins considered the outfit so unseaworthy, he ordered them to turn back before reaching The Junction. [see original page for Times-Independent 1938, Sep. 29, short feature on Tompkins' trip]" Letter of Tomkins, 1952, Aug. 25: "We went down the river from Moab to near the mouth of the Green (1938, Sep. 29-Oct. 02) in tandum [sic] boats lashed together, the rear one rigged with an old Ford motor belonging to two boys hauling for an oil drilling outfit. In addition, Norman had a light two-man rowboat trailing behind, truly a strange looking outfit."
