Description I propose to write a fifty- to sixty-page collection of short stories, centering on the lives of women, detailing their emotional states and the events around them. The stories will mainly be "minimalist," meaning that they will use less explanation and long, poetic phrasings than other kinds of literary writing done today. They will also be "experimental" in the sense that they will lack certain elements traditionally considered essential to a short story, such as plot or cohesive narration. Instead, the stories will depend mainly on the use of language, much as poetry does. The first story, "Next To It," will be the least experimental, and will play with language and people's perceptions of reality. The next four stories, "Halycon Days," "Almond Coffee," "Smoke Bubbles," "Jumping Off," and the last story, "Barbed Wire," will be the most minimalist and have the least emphasis on plot. The fifth story, "Javelin," conceived through the use of three Tarot cards, will use motifs from the unconscious mind to explore the way that people cause pain to themselves and others.
