Title Chemistry of Cu(II), Cu(I), and Ag(I) complexes with potentially quadridentate ligands
Date 1988-06
Year graduated 1988
Description This paper will specifically report and discuss the chemistry of this ligand set with the transition metals, silver and copper. Portions of this work has also been reported in preliminary form.4, 5 Each of the ligands was synthesized and characterized by infrared and 1 Hand 13C N.M.R. (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectroscopy. Selected ligands were also analyzed by elemental analysis. Attempts were made to coordinate these ligands in different stoichiometric ratios to Cu(II), Cu(I), and Ag(l) metal centers. The resulting complexes were characterized by melting point, infrared spectroscopy, and 1 H N.M.R. spectroscopy when stability and solubility allowed. Representative compounds were further analyzed by elemental analysis, 13C N.M.R., and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structural data from analysis by single crystal X-ray diffraction including the crystal parameters, atomic coordinates and bond lengths and angles for the compounds are tabulated in the appendices. Trends in the structure, properties, and reactivity of these materials and their significance are noted and discussed in this paper.
