Title Machining a critical analysis on the model of the memory place or computing toward a ludic freud
Date 1999-05
Year graduated 1999
Description Taking inspiration from the mnemonic device known as the "Jesuit memory palace," and taking as its problem the creative extension of the literary critical enterprise, this project proposes the design of and theory behind a computer game adapted from a piece of"postmodern" critical rhetoric. The game, written in the Interactive Fiction (IF) format, is argued as a responsive prose work engaging the user in an activity more like archaeology than reading or listening, where the objects, scenes, puzzles, and topology of the game environment are scripted so as to re-encode the critical insights presented in an analytical paper. The paper used, written by the author, concerns the writings of Sigmund Freud-a writer who in some sense inaugurates the crisis of modern critical/theoretical language and the question of its reach.
