Title Observation and evaluation of an adult education class in home economics at Kearns High School
Date 1972-06
Year graduated 1972
Description In some high schools home economics teachers have the option of having a sumrner program for interested students. These students decide upon some type of project which the teacher must approve as worthy of the student's ability. My honors project was made possible because such a summer program was conducted from Kearns High School. Mrs. Anna Dee Sherwood, as a teacher concerned about community problems, wanted to reach the adult homemakers of Kearns as well as their daughters. To do so she set up a special class. One of her purposes was to provide for the adults a number of lessons that would help them better manage their homes. A second purpose was to show how the local high school could be a place of learning for the entire community, not just for high school students. Many of the people of Kearns seem to feel that "school" is only for children and that education stops with high school, if not before.
