Description |
The pathogenesis of Nonoarteric Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) primarily involves interference with the posterior ciliary artery blood supply to the prelaminar optic nerve. Patients with chronic renal failure often have coexisting pathology such as hypotension (decreased blood delivery), or hypertension, atherosclerosis (increased resistance to blood supply), and anemia (low blood oxygen carrying capacity), predisposing them to ischemic optic neuropathy. The purpose of this study is to describe a case series of patients with NAION and medical history of chronic renal failure and haemodialysis. |
