Title Woody Allen: A maker of serious comedy
Date 1987-06
Year graduated 1987
Description In twenty years, Woody Allen has grown from a stand-up New York comedian into one of America's leading humorists. His career started in the early sixties with simple nightclub monologues. Soon, he began writing short stories and satirical essays that were published in Playboy, Esquire, and The New York Times. More ambitious Allen prose has appeared in The New Yorker and The New Republic. He has also authored two bestselling books: Getting Even (1971) and Without Feathers (1974). For the theatre, he has written, directed, and starred in five one-act plays and two full-Ienqth Broadway productions - all of them critically acclaimed. But Allen's most visible and popular work has been in films, of which he has written fifteen, starred in fourteen, and directed twelve.
