Description I think what follows might help someone who wants to travel around Central America. I've never seen a Central America on a Shoestring sort of book, so maybe this is an invalid sort of guidebook. Actually, the bulk of this is here to hold together a few sketches I did once trying to organize my unconsciousness, or something. This was intended to be a complete narrative filled with war stories and thoughtful reminiscences occurring during the trip a friend, Leonard Adair, and I, made through all of Central America in the winter of 1985. In its inception our trip had two possible goals. The first was to go to Mexico, find the cheapest way to Jamaica, then jump islands all the way to Venezuela. We would then travel through Venezuela to Columbia and up through Central America to return to Mexico. The second possible goal was to blitz from Mexico through Central America down to South America and, at the very least, cross the equator in Ecuador. Both of these goals still await realization. There is no way from Mexico to Jamaica and there are no roads from Panama to Columbia; both facts were surprises to us. Anyway, ten weeks is not enough time for either of these trips. So it goes. Just as our trip plans got all out of proportion, so did this project. It all got too big, and since the project was approved many moons ago, in a much abbreviated form I might add, I decided to limit this thing to Belize and Honduras.
