The image of the negro in American literature

The objective of this honors project was to gain a broader understanding of the problems and the richness of Negro life in America as interpreted by both white and black authors. By reading a wide and careful selection of biographies, short stories, autobiographies, novels, essays and plays, the student hoped to taste the frustrations, hopes, dreams, and passions as well as the changing and varied environments of Negro life since the slave era.
