Description Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) typically presents with bilateral papilledema; however, highly asymmetric and rare unilateral cases have been reported. Several mechanisms behind this asymmetry have been postulated including differences in; compliance of the lamina cribrosa, optic nerve sheath anatomy, and bony optic canal diameter.
