Description Dr Bishop was born in 1927 in Springfield, Missouri. Dr Bishop received masters degrees from University of Kansas, Syracuse University and the University of Missouri. Dr Bishop received her Ph.D. from Washington University. Dr Bishop was Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine from 1985-1995 and the first woman to lead a department at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr Bishop received the American Academy of Family Physicians highest honor, the John G. Walsh Award for her leadership in furthering the development of family practice. In 2001, Dr Bishop received the "Women Who Make a Difference Award" from the International Womens Forum. In 1990 the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Foundation established the annual "F. Marian Bishop Leadership Award" in her honor. In 2001, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine established the "F. Marian Bishop Educator of the Year Award". Dr. Bishop died in 2003. The portrait of Dr Bishop was painted by Robin Lewis Farr in 1995. All portraits at present are in temporary storage during the library retrofit.
