Content Description +/-This collection consists of issues of Westminster review, also titled Westminster College review, dating from Winter 1988 forward. Since its inception in 1988, this has been the central publication of Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah. The Westminster review replaced the earlier Newscope : bulletin of Westminster College (published 1972-1988) as a higher quality, full-color publication meant to mirror the college's newfound success. It was renamed the Westminster College review in 1997. With the Fall 2012 issue, the title reverted to Westminster review. The semi-regular glossy magazine is distributed to alumni and college benefactors, detailing college activities and reporting the school's finances. Begining October 2015, while print copies continue to be available, the new issues have been digitized and made available on the Westminster Review website. The website links to the current issue, and past issues dating from Spring 2014 forward. The Review has largedly continued the regular features and basic outline of Newscope ("Class Notes", "Alumni News", "Faculty and Campus News") with additional content about college events. The alumni section publishes news on individual alumni while class notes reports by decade (i.e., 1940s) on alumni events. Faculty news generally details the activities of new faculty as well as continuing faculty (e.g., publications, travel, and research). Campus news reports on the significant events held on campus, as well as recognizing changes to the campus buildings and other infrastructure. Other sections have changed through time. The Review is largely filled with photographs and general interest articles relating to the activities of the college or its students (e.g., May Term trips, curriculum improvements, or profiles). The occasional "Annual Report" issue is not a regular annual, but sporadically provides detailed information on the school's budget, donor list, and fiscal projections. Some issues are devoted to specific topics. For example, the spring 1995 issue was identified as the "St. Marks Edition" and focused on the school's nursing program while the summer 1995 focused on incoming college President Peggy Stock including a retrospective of the school's earlier presidents. Other issues with a specific focus include the following: Spring 1997 (Science and Technology), Winter 1997 (new Giovale library), Winter 1998 (Business graduates and the Business school), Summer 2002 (President Bassis), Summer 2003 (May Term classes), Winter 2003 (study abroad), Summer 2004 (new strategic plan), and Spring 2005 (Vieve Gore). The Review has experienced a number of changes from its inception. The title change in winter 1997 occurred when the editor changed from Dana Tumpowsky to Anne Macdonald, though no explanation was given for the shift. Its largest change has been the frequency of publication. The 1988-1996 issues were published in Winter, Spring and Summer; from 1997-2000 issues were published in Spring and Winter; from 2001-2004 in Winter and Summer; and in 2005 Spring and Fall. Volume numbers started being added in the 1999 Winter issue, with Volume 2, issue 3, but ceased with Summer 2004, Volume 6 issue 2. Gaps in the collection: Known missing issues are 1988 Spring, 1988 Summer, 1992 Winter and Fall, 1993 Spring and Summer, 1994 Winter and Spring, and 1995 Winter. Additionally, the 1990 Spring copy is missing 6 pages. Collection Use +/-Restrictions on Access: Open to public research.
