Florence Nightingale

This is an intriguing photograph of Florence Nightingale that is matted in such a way that a large boarder is allowed at the bottom of the photograph for her name which is written in cursive. In much smaller font above her name are the words, "From a photograph by Col. Lloyd Verney" and on the right, "Emery Walker Ph oc." Beneath the name are some words that are hidden under the matting and are barely visible at their top, being impossible to read without taking apart the matting. The photograph itself has Nightingale looking towards the left and seated in an outside setting with plants all around her. She is wearing a dark dress with a contrast of white cuffs and, in her parted hair, a white shawl which ties at her chin. Twisting branches rise up along the left side of the picture, barely making it in the image. One branch sticks out and covers her right hand, while her left hand is placed on her lap.<br><br>
