Show This is a photograph of the east side entrance and north side view of Payne Gymnasium. The building is brick, with numerous windows and cement foundations/ trim. There is lighter brick on the north face (right) of the building, and tetherball poles beside it. Along the east entrance side (left) of the building, there are some trees and a parking lot with some parked cars. A man is getting out of one of them. An 'L' shaped chain-link fence runs next to the parking lot on the right side of the picture. Beyond the gymnasium on the right, there is another car and a building visible. |

This photograph is in excellent condition. There is a label on the front of the photo in the lower right corner that reads "East Side Entrances & North Side[,] Payne Gymnasium."On the back of the photo there is a red stamp that says "ANSIL PHOTOGRAPHY [,] 231 Edison Street [,] Salt Lake City, Utah 84111".With financial support from Frank Russell Payne, president of the board of trustees at Westminster College and manager of the local J.C. Penny Company, the college broke ground on the $55,000 gymnasium on July 17, 1928 Dedicated on January 11, 1929, it was named the Frank Russell Payne Gymnasium in honor of its primary donor. The new facility was used not only by a grateful Westminster student body, but also by a variety of teams and clubs from the Sugar House Area.For information on Frank R.
