Show A studio portrait of Dr. Jesse Fonda Millspaugh who was the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute's second principle from 1883-1890 and the first superintendent of schools in Salt Lake City. Millspaugh is posed with his head turned away from the camera. The photograph gives a close-up of his head and torso. Millspaugh is wearing a dark suit coat and a dark vest and white shirt beneath it. There is also a bow tie around his neck. |

The quality of this photograph is poor. It is grainy and has developmental smears at the bottom right hand side that appear most noticeably. The rest of the photograph is plagued with minor developmental imperfections. The condition of the photograph itself is excellent. The only markings on the photograph appear on back where "Millspaugh" has been penciled in at the top. Below that is a stamped number, "7454." There are blotches of glue markings that are slightly visible also. The edges are free of niches and wear. Born in Orange County, New York, on June 18, 1855, and orphaned at age four, Jesse Fonda Millspaugh came to the Salt Lake Valley in 1883 at the age of twenty-eight after having obtained a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in the same year. Suffering from an inflammatory heart condition he pursued collegiate education and was hired by founder John Coyner as the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute principle in 1883 and assumed full responsibility of the school |
