Description Dr Marshall was born in Tooele, Utah in 1884. Dr Marshall received his A.B. in 1908 from the University of Utah. Dr Marshall received his M.D. in 1914 from Columbia University. Dr Marshall received an M.S. in Public Health in 1930 from the University of Michigan. Dr Marshall was Professor at the University of Utah from 1914-1942. From 1942-1945, Dr Marshall was a member of the Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General, U.S. Public Health Service. Dr Marshall was Professor of Physical Welfare and University Physician from 1920-1944; Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine from 1944-1950 and Acting Dean of the School of Medicine from 1944-1946. Dr Marshall retired in 1950. Dr Marshall played a major role in negotiating the transfer of part of Ft. Douglas to the Veterans Administration for the construction of the new VA Hospital and for the expansion of the University of Utah. Dr Marshall was instrumental in organizing local health departments and in the planning and financing the University Hospital. Dr Marshall died in 1972. The portrait of Dr Marshall was painted by Alvin Gittins in 1964, and is located next to the elevator on the east wall on the main floor of the Eccles Health Science Library.
